The Autumn Moon Festival falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, when the moon is exceptionally round and bright. Chinese tradition says the round full moon symbolizes the completeness associated with family reunions. In China, and around the world, families come together to celebrate the festival out in the moonlight. For instance, Guangzhou hosts a large lantern show, and Hong Kong presents their annual Fire Dragon Dance. The traditional food of the Autumn Moon Festival is the mooncake, a round pastry filled with lotus seed or red bean paste with a soft golden crust (so delicious!). My friends and I went to Seattle's International District for dinner and bought mooncakes to mark the holiday. How do you like to celebrate?
