Autumn Moon Festival

The Autumn Moon Festival falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, when the moon is exceptionally round and bright. Chinese tradition says the round full moon symbolizes the completeness associated with family reunions. In China, and around the world, families come together to celebrate the festival out in the moonlight. For instance, Guangzhou hosts a large lantern show, and Hong Kong presents their annual Fire Dragon Dance. The traditional food of the Autumn Moon Festival is the mooncake, a round pastry filled with lotus seed or red bean paste with a soft golden crust (so delicious!). My friends and I went to Seattle's International District for dinner and bought mooncakes to mark the holiday. How do you like to celebrate?

Autumn Loves

I love everything about autumn. I love the dark sky and the golden sidewalks. I love the smell of wet leaves. I love wind. I love boots, coats, and scarves. I love being in my house and hearing the rain pelting against the windows. I love the smell of books. I love anything that uses the word 'pumpkin' in its title to describe its flavor. I love buying apples, squash, and sweet potatoes at the farmers market. I love hot tea in a pretty mug. I love sunshine peeking through tree leaves.

Emily's Light & Bright Shabby Chic

My wonderful mother has turned me on to two incredible blogs to get my house fix: Apartment Therapy and Hooked on Houses. Since I only get basic television channels at school it's so great to keep my interests, like interior design, in check through outlets on the internet. Isn't that rather a pathetic statement? Oh well. Anyways, Emily's Chicago apartment on Apartment Therapy is just adorable. Take a look!
